My New Phone: Nokia 5310 XpressMusic

I just got this phone today, and it’s pretty freaking awesome.  I’m going to review it in full in about a week, but I wanted to let people know in the meantime that the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic is awesome and cheap (with the 2-year contract from T-Mobile).

Anyway, it appears Nokia has finally listened to all the whining from people who want a phone that doesn’t make you feel like you’re getting groped by a youthful gorilla.  It’s funny how it seems like an act of kindness and generosity when a long-time abuser stops taking advantage of you.  This is what I love:

  1. Charges with an old-fashioned barrel connector.  None of those patented self-destructing fins of foil that corrode into a useless pile of shit after three uses.
  2. Has a normal 3.5mm stereo headphone jack.  In fact, the freaking hands-free mic plugs into it, and you can plug any damn headphones you please into the freaking hands-free.  This is like music-phone mecca, my little ones.
  3. A real live USB cable to plug into the computer.  They’ve got a retarded squished mini-connector on the phone side, but at least it’s not that foil shit that doesn’t work.

That’s it.  There are some interface niggles, but that may just be the shock of using a new interface.  I shall adapt.  I shall configure.  I shall report back to you next week.
